Friday Flowers

I wanted to share with you my flowers I received on my birthday.

Yes, I know, my desk is awfully messy!! Proof I actually DO work instead of play on the internet all day! Also notice the package in the background that looks like an cupcake - it is a toffee and chocolate dipped green apple and weighs about 5 lbs. I haven't been brave enough to eat it yet, but will certainly have my camera ready when I do.

Our wedding colors were lime and purple so it was pretty cool that they incorporated them into this bouquet.

I did make the mistake of asking how much they were. Admittedly, flowers are somewhat pricey but they sure do keep a smile on your face. A happy roommate is priceless, right?? ha!!!!!!!

31, yeah.

What is exciting about 31? Not much, really. No, seriously, I WILL make myself focus on something positive today.

About 9 years ago today, I received a very special card in the mail. I believe it was sent overnight. It was a birthday card from my roommate. It was absolutely one of the sweetest things I had received in a LOOOOOONG time. He even wrote in the card, which, I find 9 years later, I am lucky to even GET a card, let alone a message in one from him. Oh yeah, focus on the positive. You guys are probably thinking, a card, so what. My roommate and I had a weird start to our relationship. Since May 1, 2001 we have been together, however, we never really had the "dating" stage. We hung out for several weekends, then he had to go to Bismarck, ND for work. We then had a phone relationship for several months. Seriously, I kept calling him everyday and he never told me to stop, so I guess you could say I wore him down. I really wasn't sure if he really liked me or if he was bored and I was somewhat entertaining, so he kept answering my phone calls.

All of that changed on 7/27/01!! I got a card, it was very thoughtful and had a sweet message!! Now that is a great birthday present (not to mention the very generous Pier One gift card inside!).

Today I find myself looking back on that day and getting a big smile on my face because it is so priceless to find someone to be your true constant in your life. He was there 1st thing this AM and will be there last thing tonight as I put on my eyemask (yes, I sleep with an eyemask and it is heavenly, not to mention sexy) and go to sleep. I am pretty sure today will be a good day. :)

Lover, Lover Lover

This past Thursday, Jerrod Niemann was at the Power and Light for a free concert. He is friends with my sister in law and I was so extremely excited to meet a celebrity!! We tried really hard to get to go backstage, but never got the invite. I am not sure if there is a "backstage" at the Power and Light area, but still.

So Jerrod has quite the story. He has been trying to make it in music his whole adult life, had a few record deals, but never a hit as big as this one. If you haven't heard the song, go listen to it now!

Anyway, so the four of us (roommate, his sister, her spouse and me) go to the concert to cheer him on. As my luck would have it, I was in the damn bathroom when Lover, Lover came on, so I missed the highlight of the show....but the real highlight came after the concert when we actually go to meet Jerrod. It was pretty exciting as I have not met that many celebrities.

Us with Jerrod

Us with the Drummer

I also totally bitched out a Q104 (country station) photographer. So here I am, standing to the side of the stage. A man comes up behind me and says "Excuse Me." So I kindly move to the left and give him room to get by. HE THEN STANDS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME!!. Oh, boy, this did not sit well with the hot redhead with a few beers in her system. I got in his face and reminded him very loudly that EXCUSE ME MEANS FOR HIM TO MOVE AROUND ME, NOT STAND RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. He informed me he is with Q104 and he can stand where ever he wants. Ummm..NO IT DOESN'T! However, I must have scared him b/c he did move on. Showed him.

Tres Bliss

Well, we made it. 3 years. Seriously, I still get ticked when I think about being married ONLY 3 years when we have been together for like, um....9 years. Anyway, I need to stop bitching b/c at least we finally got married. As you know, it is not my style to be romantic, so I am not going to profess my love out here on the internet but yet tell you how my day started.

Alarm goes off, don't want to get up as I am having some weird allergy attack or summer cold. Sleep in for a bit longer, then get up, rushing around, as I should have gotten up 30 minutes ago. Rush around, kiss my roommate (who is still in bed) goodbye and leave.

Go to the bank to deposit checks.

Get halfway to work AND THEN IT HITS ME - TODAY IS THE 21ST, OUR ANNIVERSARY. Shit! I forgot to put out my card and I don't want to wait until after work b/c he will think I really did forget. So, I turn around. I get back to the house, put his card in his car and confirm his gift is working (I re-activated his XM radio). NOPE. I get everything handled, leave the house and he finds his gift as I originally intended him to, but now I am officially 1.5 hours late in starting my day. Oh well, at least I don't have a boss to deal with :).

So, here it is, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY!! I am one lucky girl and he is probably still wondering what in the hell he got himself into.

Summer Camp for Adults

I recently attending a Continuing Legal Education class and this required a 2 night stay, on a college campus, in a dorm room. Wow, was this a blast from the past. I was less than thrilled when my parents informed me that I was living in the dorms, like it or not. However, it turned out to be one of the best experiences in my college years. It was the best way to meet people and feel like you have a family away from home. I lived in Ford Hall at KSU on the 9th floor. Get this - I was on the QUIET floor. NO IDEA HOW THIS HAPPENED, AND YES, IT DID GET ME IN TROUBLE FROM TIME TO TIME. Anyway, when I moved in, it was just my Mom and I. We get there with all of my crap and learn that the elevators aren't working nor is the air conditioning (remember, I am on the 9th floor??)!! It was one of the most awful experiences EVER, but yet a memory that is now a laugh to my Mom and I.

Back to last weekend - when I arrived to the town, I saw hotels and thought to myself - why can't I just stay in a hotel? I was going to this conference alone and just wasn't too hot on the dorm room idea. However, I had already paid for the dorms so I was stuck with my decision. It was another hot day as I am wheeling my stuff in - thank goodness it was only enough for two loads - and I walk into the room - it is HOT! Not like there isn't a/c, but stuffy. My initial reaction was to be ticked off, however, I immediately thought of my Mom and smiled. I guess it is a sign of age when stuff that pisses you off can bring a memory, and a smile to your face.

The weekend turned out to be a good one and I met some pretty great pals, all because I was in the dorms and forced to be a social bug.

Don't Cry Over Spilled Milk

I know this is a figure of speech, but it was almost true today. As some of you may/may not know, I eat cereal in the car on the way to work. I sometimes add my milk to my bowl before I leave, or sometimes I put it in a cup and add it right before I eat my milk (HATE soggy cereal!). Why do I need to add my milk later? Well, sometimes I first put on my makeup (usually only mascara). I know, I am the poster child for poor driving decisions, but trust me, I get all of this done before I hit the highway.

Anyway, back to my morning.

I am rushing trying to get the the Courthouse and then to my office for a consult. I have on a cute dress (first time to wear it) and it is an above average day. I have my briefcase, cereal bowl, cup of milk, lunch bag, purse and Tervis Tumbler filled with tea. I realize I cannot open the door with all of this in my hand, so I set the cereal bowl and cup of milk on the table at the entry way of the door. As I am trying to get out the door, my lovely son, Willie, tries to escape. I move sideways in front of him, knock over the milk, sending it dripping down the wall, the table, my briefcase and my dress. UGGGHH!!

Willie is in heaven. He loves milk. I am sure he thinks I did this on purpose to feed his need for milk. I so wanted to scream and cry, but I didn't have time for that, I had to change, somewhat clean up this mess and get on with my day.

I thought animals were supposed to reduce stress.....

Baby Girl is Growing Up

Jordy is still a little runt (well, that is when she is next to her brother), but she has grown into such a pretty little girl. She doesn't get to go outside like Willie does, but recently we have let her go on the deck with us. Willie, the protective big brother he is, watches her every move and wrangles her back onto the deck if she tries to venture into the yard.

Saturday afternoon, we were out on the deck in the chaise lounges and she whined and whined walking all around my chair. I didn't know what was wrong until I got up from my chair and realized that she wanted my chair! Little brat.

Can I go See Jesus?

My niece asked me this question at a funeral last week. I was baffled as to how I should answer this for several reasons: One, the priest was right there listening, second, I didn't know how to tell her that she can't really see Jesus. I kind of stammered around and then she pointed behind me.

Well, little did I know that the 5 year old saw a statue of Jesus and wanted to see the statue! Thank goodness, because it was turning out to be an awkward situation.

As I was just on the phone with a very angry client, I thought that it would be interesting if I responded, "Can I go see Jesus?". This didn't come out of my mouth, but it sure would have been fun to ask....just to get the response. In all honestly, I would have much rather been anywhere than on the other end of that phone conversation.

I better go, I am off to see Jesus!

Canker Sores

I know you don't want to keep hearing about my ailments, but I really wanted to pass on the word about a miracle product I have found. I get at least one canker sore every month. Yes, I know, I have herpes! Some are not so bad but others are extremely painful. I have used every product that is on the market - so I thought!!

I purchased this:

It is not just a pain reliever, but it makes a film that creates a protective coating in your mouth so you don't keep irritating the sore. Trust me, it is worth the $4.

I also wanted to post a pic of my mouth sore, but chose not to, as you all have seen canker sores.

Back to the 80s

We had an 80s party last weekend and let me tell you - I STILL LOVE DRESSING UP!! My sister and I used to put on crazy outfits all the time (yes, to get attention!), but it is still so much fun!!

My outfit was purchased from Wal-Mart. Apparently the Miley Cyrus collection enjoyed the 80s too!! My scalp literally hurt Sunday morning from my side ponytail. That was a lot of hair to hold up on the side of my head!! :)

Group photo!! Some grew out mustaches, others were purchased!
