Maybe its not meant to be....

…so I am home without a roommate for a few days and left to the responsibility of taking care of Willie (cat). Pretty easy task, sure! He drives me crazy b/c he wants to go outside all of the time, but I have agreed to not let him roam after dark (had a little incident once, see first ever post). So, to allow myself a bit of sanity, I let him out for a bit, while it was still dusk. I then start chatting on the phone with my Mom for a minute (more like 30) and start to hear rain and thunder so I tell her I need to get off the phone. I am yelling for Willie out the front and back door, shaking his treats, and getting anxious b/c he isn’t on the porch yet. Weird thing is, I swore I heard him meowing when I was on the phone (we mothers are good at ignoring our children's crys when we ARE ON THE PHONE!!). 10 minutes, 15 minutes, no Willie. Oh boy, getting really pissed now, guess I am going to have to drive around the neighborhood to find my son. Open the door to the garage – and oops! There he was! What I forgot was that I let him back in the house (and somehow locked him in the garage)!! I am NOT up for Mother of the year.

That is what is good about animals, they can’t call SRS.

A few more of DC

....hell there are soooooo many, I could post these for years, but I am afraid I might lose my faithful 5 followers!! :)

Washington Monument. Pretty amazing.

Botanical Garden. Took about 30 flower pics - I might make postcards or something!

See the tiny older lady? It is Justice Ginsburg. She visited our reception after the swearing in ceremony. She was a sweet, fragile lady.

Lincoln memorial.

Jefferson Memorial. Jefferson was quite the writer, not a very good speaker. See, I tried to learn. Jefferson was a very accomplished man, quite a resume.

DC Update

Traveling companion and I began to go through the 500+ pics taken at DC. Who said digital was a good thing? I have picked a few to share. I think if we made anyone look at all of these they would fall asleep. Hell, I almost did when we were deleting some.

On the Supreme Court Steps - horrific hair day, please excuse.

Arlington Cemetary, quite a sight.

(Another) Sign of Aging

So Mickey and Minnie are here visiting and we went to the park. All was well until I got on the swings! They wanted me to impress them with how high Aunt Red can go. So, of course, I take them up on their challenge and in the process made myself somewhat sick. I was sort of dizzy and car sick at the same time. It was awful. Is this normal? Does your body not like swinging after a certain age?

I am now realizing that I better get on the kid wagon sooner rather than later.....

A Big Belly Can Be Cool

As Mickey and Minnie are watching the Adventures of Winnie the Pooh last night, they were so entertained by his belly. Pooh is on a bit of celebrity status in their young minds, and they find it quite an honor that Papa (my dad) and John (their grown up friend) have a belly like Pooh. I am very excited when they learn who the Little Mermaid is.....she looks just like Aunt Red (I can dream!!!)

Driving myself crazy

The past few days the weather has been nice. Very nice. So nice that I expect others to feel the same way I feel and get outside and get projects started. What projects? Well, there are several on (my) horizon, however, I cannot do the labor in over half of them, just direct. I am confident in my skills in certain areas, but most of the projects I dream up in my head require the manual labor of my roommate/contractor. He is an expert at building things, painting, moving stuff around, you know the "man" labor. I just have all of these things that I am dying to get accomplished, however, can't seem to get the man labor organized, or as excited about the projects as I am. Maybe I need to look into hiring labor instead of sleeping with the labor???

For a Good Cause

I know money is tight, and I hate fundraising, but I wanted to reach as many people as possible to let them know about the March of Dimes walk I have joined.

I have joined a team walking to honor Baby Tommy. Tommy was born last year on March 23, 2008, and died on May 3, 2008. He as born with a virus that kills most babies. He fought a hard fight, but wasn't able to pull through. The walk is on the one year anniversary of his death and if you can help me reach my goal my heart will be filled with such joy. Here is the link to my page, click here.

Thanks you for your support!!!

You just never know

My goodness, I am shocked today at the news of Nathsha Richardson. She was skiing on a bunny slope, taking a ski lesson, and fell. She got up, was talking and walking, but went to her room to rest. She then began to have a bad headache and then they rushed her to the hospital. Now she is determined to be brain dead.

This is just so crazy to me. My parents (thank you so much!!) took us skiing several times when we were kids and we were little wild things. We would ski in and out of the trees and fall constantly. We never thought about wearing a helmet, but now I guess the hypochondriac Mom that I will be will wrap my kid in charmin and make it wear a helmet. Jeez, will things be fun anymore or will we be so scared to do anything before too long? For instance, I love the sound of motorcycles but am scared of them. Even if I have a helmet on it doesn't mean that I will come out of a wreck looking very good. The whole face plant thing really scares me. I know, I am supposed to put my hands out before I hit my face but sometimes my instincts like that don't work (call me Grace, my Mom does).

I know I said this last week, but I am really feeling it now....you just never know when your day is coming so try and live this day to the fullest. And what I have to tell myself is to not be so bitchy to the people that may give my eulogy. Joking, I DO NOT WANT A EULOGY. I do not want a formal service even. I am sure my roommate will not carry out my wishes b/c he wants "closure". I would really be fine with a nice meal, pictures shared, stories shared, and if you want, you can print this out for entertainment. Ok, enough funeral planning for now.

Have a great day!!!

Hello Spring and White Legs!

So, I did it, bared my legs for the first time this year. Not sure if Kansas City was ready for them, but I became brave and brought them out! Does anyone else have to "get used" to their legs at the beginning of every Spring? I sure do. I don't know if it is because mine or so white or what, but it takes me a good month to be ok with my pasty baby grand piano legs. I wonder why I have a complex?? First, my roommate calls me pasty, then my mother comments that my legs are like baby grand piano legs. I guess this was supposed to be a compliment on strength, but I still don't see it.

Anyway, next time you see me you may want to make sure you have some eye protection, because I can guarantee that I will still be pasty!

WEHNRGD

What does it mean? take a guess, I think I have it figured out......

This is the license plate of a van in front of me the other day. I tried to take a picture of it, but it didn't come out very clear, so you just have to trust me. I love to try and figure out the crypt in the tags. The first thing that came to me was weiner god. Mind in the gutter or what?? No, I was thinking wiener dogs! I was thinking these people were really strange to put Wiener God on their van but then I thought that maybe they have a lot of wiener dogs or rescue them or something. Then it hit me - We Honor God. Whoops! Have to admit, wiener god has a lot more ring to it. Maybe it is suitable for a high school boy who really thinks he has his game on....

With a heavy heart

Hello, I just got back this morning from DC and have been catching up on my email, reading blogs, and a bit of work. I waited until last to read my last blog, the one about Shawndra, who is dying of cancer. She is down to her last days as her family has decided to only administer pain medicine.

Once again, I am reminded how precious life is and how much I take for granted every day, if not at least once an hour. Please take a moment as you read this and take a deep breath and allow yourself to smile. Why? Because you can, and most of all because you have something to smile for, your life and all of the other lives around you. DO IT NOW!!

On another (lighter) note, happy birthday to my niece and nephew, Mickey and Minnie. I cannot believe 4 years has gone by since you came into this world. I have enjoyed our times together and look forward to seeing you at the end of this month. You two are quite the handful, but an enjoyable handful!! It is fun to see you two learn and grow! Love you bunches!!

Not sure if I am cut out for DC....

I am headed off to DC tomorrow so I can be sworn into the Supreme Court. I am still deathly afraid of speaking in court, so I am really doing this because it makes for a good story and wall art. Here are some reasons why I do not feel that I am qualified to go on a trip to DC:

1. Watergate – travel partner wants to go there – had not clue it was a place, just thought it was a scandal
2. Vice Presidents house – I had no idea he had his own house, thought he lived in the White House
3. Supreme Court – I am studying the justices, I don’t know their names yet
4. Museums tend to bore me a bit
5. I get Arlington and Mt. Vernon confused – still am confused while I am typing this. Believe one is a cemetery and one is a president’s place of birth
6. I am not a history buff – can you tell?
7. I must stay by my travel partner’s side or I will NEVER make it back to KS, I am not a genius when it comes to map

Other than this, should be a good time. Will update you with pics upon my return next week. Don’t miss me too much!

The Bachelor, Oh My

I can't even pretend to be excited about what happened b/c right after the final rose, I knew the relationship was going south. Don't know why, just had a hunch (and internet spoilers!). I am most disappointed that the rejected bachelorette, Molly, immediately took him back. Pardon my french Molly, but grow some balls. It is apparent by watching the show that your new man is nothing but a crybaby out there trying to screw up teaching his son the ins and outs of what not do in a relationship. I do not think this relationship will work either, but I will again tune into part 2 of after the final rose. Can't get enough of these idiots.

McNuggets are an emergency

Just had to share this:

"McNuggets Are an Emergency!"

A woman was just arrested over a box of Chicken McNuggets!!

Here's how it all went down: Latreasa Goodman claims she ordered -- and paid -- for a box of some delicious nuggets at a Mickey D's in Florida over the weekend, when suddenly the unthinkable happened -- she was told there were no more nuggets to be had. When an employee told her it was against store policy to give refunds, Latreasa called 911 -- three times in a row.

When the cops got to the scene, they tried to explain that McNugget drama is not an emergency -- but according to the police report obtained by TheSmokingGun.com, Latreasa begged to differ:

"This is an emergency, If I would have known they didn't have McNuggets, I wouldn't have given my money, and now she wants to give me a McDouble, but I don't want one. This is an emergency."

But here's the rub: Even after cops cited her for "misuse of 911," Latreasa continued to tell cops, "This is an emergency, my McNuggets are an emergency."
